Ozarks Healthcare (West Plains, MO) showcased its successful efforts to improve the physician user experience in two KLAS Arch Collaborative case studies this fall. Ozarks’ participation in the case studies comes on the heels of receiving two KLAS Arch Collaborative EHR Experience Breakthrough awards for physician and nurse EHR satisfaction improvements — one of just 14 organizations to earn the distinction in both categories.

“Participating in the Arch Collaborative enabled us to learn what and where we needed to improve and use that information to optimize workflows for all our end users,” said Ozarks CMIO Priscilla A. Frase, MD. “Other healthcare organizations should be able to achieve the same outcomes by following the Arch Collaborative’s evidence-based guidelines.”

Ozarks went live with MEDITECH’s Expanse EHR in January 2020. Since then, the healthcare organization has prioritized enhancing clinicians’ user experience. Quantified in the collaborative’s Net EHR Experience Score measurements, Ozarks scored in the mid to high 90th percentile for provider support, training, and user experience, indicating exceptional levels of physician satisfaction and comfort, as illustrated in the KLAS case studies:

Focusing on Providers through EHR Governance and Support 2024

Ozarks Healthcare developed a strong governance model that strives to offer top-notch IT support to providers. Advisory committees consisting of physician representatives and clinical leaders from across the organization meet regularly to guide projects and address issues, fostering a sense of ownership. Ozarks also attributes its success to in-person EHR support for clinicians and a reduction in the number of system updates. Read the case study here.

Focusing on Providers through Effective Initial and Ongoing EHR Education 2024

Ozarks’ efforts to develop physicians’ EHR proficiency focused on one-on-one, specialty-specific training for recently hired providers. During onboarding, trainers observe physicians’ comfort level navigating screens and ensure they use the EHR efficiently. Follow-up education sessions enable trainers to address gaps and optimize physicians’ workflow. Read the case study here

In light of the healthcare organization’s stellar results in enhancing the physician user experience, Dr. Frase was invited to deliver the keynote at the Arch Collaborative Learning Summit in July. In addition, she presented the case study findings at MEDITECH LIVE as part of a panel discussion on perfecting patient care. Watch the recording here, and visit our Events page for a recap of our annual leadership summit.
