Advancing the Future of Healthcare: 2025 MEDITECH Interoperability, Data, and Technology Summit

MEDITECH recently hosted a 2025 Interoperability, Data, and Technology Summit, bringing together healthcare professionals, IT leaders, and policymakers in Liverpool (April 29) and Leeds (May 1). While the event served as a collaborative platform to address one of healthcare’s most pressing needs — true data interoperability — the agenda also included practical solutions and innovative strategies in six key areas:

  • Advancing Healthcare Data Interoperability: Delegates explored how network data exchange can eliminate data silos and accelerate national efforts toward interoperability.
  • Reducing Clinician Burden: Sessions highlighted the role of FHIR schemas in enhancing data utility within clinical workflows, easing documentation demands, and improving EPR adoption.
  • Patient Trust and Engagement: Attendees examined how improved data access and intelligent workflows can build trust and foster greater patient involvement in care.
  • Operational Capacity: Speakers demonstrated how data exchange networks enable healthcare Trusts to scale interoperability use cases effectively.
  • Improving Outcomes: Discussions underscored how comprehensive data analysis and services like the NHS Genomic Medicine Service are improving health outcomes.
  • Boosting Efficiency: Presenters also explored the role of Generative AI and Ambient Listening to enhance clinical efficiency and operations.

Throughout both days, a consistent theme emerged that highlighted how interoperability depends not only on connectivity but also on utility. While seamless data exchange is essential, it is the meaningful use of that data — turning it into actionable insight — that empowers care teams and improves patient outcomes.

MEDITECH Senior Director of Interoperability Market and Product Strategy Mike Cordeiro presented a clear vision of how evolving technologies can streamline healthcare delivery.

“Strong healthcare interoperability unlocks the full potential of data, laying the foundation for advanced technologies like AI and genomics to thrive,” he said. “When data flows seamlessly, we gain the insights needed to reduce administrative burdens, enhance operational efficiency, and ultimately deliver more personalized, patient-centered care.”

MEDITECH Clinical Product Management and Genomics Manager Jennifer Ford delivered a compelling presentation on the potential of AI, genomics, and sophisticated interoperability to revolutionise healthcare systems and improve efficiency.

“We are excited to lead in this space, leveraging groundbreaking solutions to bring not only the whole care team of clinicians, but also research and clinical trials teams together across the care continuum in workflows that have long been disconnected,” she said.  "With these new technologies, we can bring the power of technology to every clinical area, evolving workflows in a way that was previously just imagined. Leveraging structured advanced data, for example genomics, beyond just oncology, will allow MEDITECH to continuously drive innovation.”

Mike Hooton, MEDITECH UK and Ireland Interoperability and Integration Executive, shared valuable perspectives on NHS innovation, highlighting the organisation’s ongoing digital transformation journey and the future of connected care.

Charlotte Scott, Managing Director for MEDITECH UK and Ireland, reflected on the importance of the summit. “It was fantastic to see so many healthcare professionals and digital leaders come together to share ideas and solutions,” she stated. “Events like this reinforce our shared commitment to building a more connected, intelligent healthcare system—one where data truly works for patients and providers alike.”

Attendees left the event inspired by the progress being made across the sector, with renewed enthusiasm for collaboration, innovation, and data-driven care.

MEDITECH was proud to facilitate these important conversations and remains committed to supporting the NHS and the wider healthcare community with scalable, intelligent, and impactful digital health solutions.
