Nairobi, Kenya was recently the center point of data use and innovation in Africa as it hosted DataFest Africa 24, bringing together a vibrant community of regional stakeholders that included data science experts along with healthcare and industry leaders.
Since its inception in 2019, DataFest Africa has been a cornerstone event, celebrating the evolving use of data science on the African continent. This year’s conference theme, "Harnessing Data & Technology for Africa’s Transformation," focused on the power of collaborative innovation in driving societal change.

During the panel discussion on "Revolutionising Healthcare in East Africa: Harnessing Data and AI for Impact," MEDITECH South Africa Managing Director Dr. Sushanth Pillai provided examples of how MEDITECH customers are leveraging their EHR data to deliver better results and outcomes.
One such example is in the country of Botswana, where they are operating the MEDITECH EHR platform across all of their public sector hospitals. Dr. Pillai discussed how the country leverages critical data sets to proactively manage the health of the country’s population.
He also outlined some of the strategies MEDITECH has leveraged to ensure that healthcare professionals are adequately trained and equipped to use EHR data with AI and data analytics tools, sparking meaningful conversations on the future of healthcare technology among attendees.
