MEDITECH Executive Vice President and COO Helen Waters was recently appointed as an Advisor to The Scottsdale Institute, a not-for-profit member organization focused on supporting the needs of healthcare system executives.

Helen joins a group of esteemed senior leaders and experts in establishing a course for advancing the organization’s educational content (which includes webinars, Fireside Chats, roundtable discussions, and conference materials) on the key issues driving digital transformation in healthcare. Its membership includes CIOs, CMOs, and Chief Quality Officers at several of the best known medical institutions in the U.S.

“The SI Advisors are the eyes, ears and heart of what makes SI a small-but-mighty organization dedicated to sharing best practices and thought leadership content through education, collaboration and networking,” according to the Scottsdale Institute’s website. “Most importantly, Advisor input helps architect a vision of the emerging Health System of the Future.”

Scottsdale’s content for this year will address a wide range of topics, including operationalizing person-centric care, using AI to drive decision making, and improving equity in community health. MEDITECH customers have already been prominently featured in several of the Institute’s popular webinars.

Back in March, a webinar featuring Frederick Health VP/CIO Jackie Rice, BSN, RN showed how her organization built a successful precision medicine program from the ground up. For the first time, physicians were able to order genetic testing through their EHR and receive results back from offsite labs in a discrete format. Frederick also established workflows for genomic screening, to determine appropriate treatment plans for individual cancer patients. And although the program was started in the Oncology department, their solution is adaptable enough to work with all healthcare specialties - including pediatrics, behavioral health, and primary care.

Another customer, HCA Healthcare, was recently highlighted in a webinar for its innovative in-room virtual nurse program. Clinical Operations VP Whitney Staub-Juergens and VP/CNIO Sherri Hess discussed how having modern foundational technology (including high definition televisions and cameras with 2-way AV) gave nurses more flexibility in their work settings while also significantly reducing burdens during medication reconciliation and discharge. At the same time, patients who participated reported increased satisfaction and better understanding of their conditions as well as their prescriptions.

MEDITECH will be sponsoring more Scottsdale Institute webinars in the coming months. For a list of upcoming sessions, visit https://scottsdaleinstitute.org/upcoming-webinars/.
