Demonstrating their dedication to supporting their community, MEDITECH staff rallied more than 500 people to contribute to this year's Adopt-A-Family initiative, helping 35 local families with gifts this holiday season.

This year, in addition to supporting the Germantown Neighborhood Center, MEDITECH employees made contributions to Rosie's Place, the Italian Home for Children, and Justice Resource Institute (JRI) Foster and Adoption Unit in the Boston metro area, as well as the Children's Restoration Network in Roswell, GA. Staff in our Minnesota office continued their longstanding tradition of contributing to their annual holiday food drive.

Altogether, 520 people — including teams from MEDITECH, Forward Advantage, Sallie Mae, Monogram Financial, ELM Financial, and the town of Carver, MA — contributed to the Adopt-A-Family program, with a gift distribution at MEDITECH’s Canton facility and 33 volunteer drivers delivering gifts on Dec. 16.

The origin of the Adopt-A-Family project dates back to the late ‘90s, when a small group of MEDITECH staff coordinated with the Germantown Neighborhood Center in Quincy, MA, to “adopt” a family in the community. The volunteers received a toy and clothing wish list for the kids — which they completely filled — and also provided some holiday food items for the family.

As word of this new project spread among MEDITECH staff, more and more groups stepped forward to contribute to the effort, and eventually brought in more nonprofit organizations in Massachusetts and Georgia.

MEDITECH employees were recently recognized by the South Shore YMCA at their Hope for the Holidays event with a plaque that is currently on display at the company’s Canton location.

“All of the time, effort, and resources that go into this program across MEDITECH staff, and non-MEDITECH staff, is inspirational to me,” said MEDITECH Business Development Manager Hilary Wein, an 18-year participant in the program. “It's a true sense of community and helping others at this time of year, and it makes me particularly happy to know that the children in these communities are able to enjoy the holidays because of our efforts.”
