Healthcare IT Today recently spotlighted MEDITECH’s integrated Genomics solution in an interview featuring Executive Vice President Hoda Sayed-Friel and Product Manager Jennifer Ford, and Golden Valley Memorial Hospital CMIO William Dailey, MD.
John Lynn, founder and chief editor of Healthcare IT Today, spoke with Sayed-Friel and Ford about how the MEDITECH Expanse Genomics solution has been engineered to store and integrate genetic information as discrete data, either from local labs or from interfaces to genetic reference labs. That discrete genetic data is not only displayed in the EHR as part of the patient chart, but also embedded in the workflow to power clinical decision support and treatment guidance at the point of care.
Speaking from his experience beginning the implementation of Genomics at GVMH, Dailey explained that the ability for clinicians to access more personalized data about patients offers new opportunities to turn that data into treatment that will benefit the patient.
“You’ve got to have the information before you can utilize it, and that’s what really excites me [about the Genomics solution],” said Dailey. “It’ll give us a genetic medical history that will build over time for each patient as we do more testing.”
