Congratulations to Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Whitby, Ontario) on winning the 2025 HIMSS Davies Award. This marks the second time the organization has won the prestigious award.
According to a recent article in Canadian Healthcare Technology, Ontario Shores is the first mental health hospital to achieve this distinction twice and the second Canadian organization to do so since the award's inception in 1994. The article also highlights how the public teaching hospital is the first organization in Canada to implement Expanse Genomics and is successfully using the solution to guide medication dosing and treatment decisions for its mental health patients — further testament to their use of healthcare information technology to improve patient outcomes.
This latest accomplishment is just one of many in the hospital’s history of outstanding industry achievements. Notably, Ontario Shores was the first hospital in Canada and the first mental health hospital in the world to achieve HIMSS Analytics Stage 7. Soon after, they became the first Canadian hospital to receive the HIMSS Enterprise Davies Award.
In August 2023, they were also the first mental health hospital in the world, and the first hospital in Canada, to receive three Stage 7 achievements for HIMSS Maturity Models.
- Revalidated on the EMR Adoption Model (EMRAM)
- Outpatient EMR Adoption Model (O-EMRAM)
- Adoption Model for Analytics Maturity (AMAM)
If you're attending HIMSS26, be sure to catch Ontario Shores' presentation, "Reducing Restraint and Seclusion Through Six Core Strategies." This session, which highlights a case study from their Davies Award win, will take place on March 11th from 9:45 am to 10:45 am. Find them on level 3, in San Polo 3404.
