    Michele Harper, MD, is an ER physician and a graduate of Harvard University as well as the Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University. She has over a decade of experience as a medical professional, most notably as the Chief Resident at Lincoln Hospital in the South Bronx and as an attending Emergency Department physician at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Philadelphia.

    Dr. Harper’s first book, The Beauty in Breaking, draws upon her background in exploring how she learned to bring insight and empathy into the emergency room. She discusses how recognizing and mending physical, emotional, and psychological breaks are all crucial parts of the healing process. 

    A New York Times best-seller, the book received wide critical acclaim and was considered for the 2021 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Nonfiction, as well as a Barnes & Noble Monthly Pick for July of 2021. The Beauty in Breaking was also selected for both the New York Times’ “100 Notable Books of 2020” and Amazon’s “100 Best Books of 2020.”

    Micky Tripathi, PhD, MPP

    U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

    Micky Tripathi is the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where he leads the formulation of the federal health IT strategy and coordinates federal health IT policies, standards, programs, and investments.

    Mr. Tripathi has over 20 years of experience across the health IT landscape. He most recently served as Chief Alliance Officer for Arcadia, a healthcare data and software company focused on population health management and value-based care, the project manager of the Argonaut Project, an industry collaboration to accelerate the adoption of FHIR, and a board member of HL7, the Sequoia Project, the CommonWell Health Alliance, and the CARIN Alliance.

    Mr. Tripathi also served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Massachusetts eHealth Collaborative (MAeHC), a non-profit health IT advisory and clinical data analytics company. He was also the founding President and CEO of the Indiana Health Information Exchange, a statewide HIE partnered with the Regenstrief Institute, an Executive Advisor to investment firm LRVHealth, and a Fellow at the Berkman-Klein Center for Internet and Society at Harvard University.

    He holds a PhD in political science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master of Public Policy from Harvard University, and an AB in political science from Vassar College. Prior to receiving his PhD, he was a Presidential Management Fellow and a senior operations research analyst in the Office of the Secretary of Defense in Washington, DC, for which he received the Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Medal.

    Genomics is changing the way physicians treat patients, both today and in the future. Physicians need the knowledge and tools to be able to use this valuable patient data. This session will focus on providing clinicians an improved understanding of clinical and molecular genetics as they relate to clinical care, diagnostics, and testing methodologies. The role of pharmacogenomics in physician workflow will be reviewed, along with strategies for how genomic data can be managed in the EHR to support clinicians in their daily clinical practice.
