MEDITECH to spotlight intelligent interoperability at HIMSS24

API advancements and new technology partnerships will be highlighted in MEDITECH Interoperability Showcase Kiosk #71 at HIMSS24.

As the healthcare industry continues to advance new technologies and care models to reduce clinician burden, improve consumer satisfaction, and provide targeted patient-centered care, the need for interoperable health records has never been greater. As a longtime interoperability leader and advocate, MEDITECH is once again excited to feature its latest interoperability innovations in the HIMSS Interoperability Showcase.

MEDITECH will present its interoperability strategy at the Interoperability Showcase Spotlight Theater on Wednesday, March 13 at 11:15 a.m. in the “Intelligent Interoperability” session. MEDITECH Senior Director of Interoperability Market and Product Strategy Mike Cordeiro will be joined by Director of Interoperability Development Chris Kundra to share their strategies on leveraging EHR intelligence to ensure data is available in a timely, appropriate, and precise manner.

“Innovation is happening at such a rapid pace that it’s virtually impossible for any solution or health system to provide everything,” explains Cordeiro. “Intelligent interoperability opens the doors to innovation by leveraging the flexibility and scalability of the cloud, along with modern and open data standards like SMART apps and FHIR APIs. Our strategy ensures that healthcare organizations are not beholden to a single vendor solution to stay ahead of the latest emerging technologies, like AI and consumer-facing apps. With MEDITECH Expanse, we aim to provide all healthcare organizations with a sustainable, future-proof platform that encourages independence, controls costs, scales with increasing demands, and enables innovation to thrive.”

MEDITECH interoperability experts will also be on hand at MEDITECH’s Interoperability Showcase Kiosk #71, where they will be joined by other partner experts to highlight many of the company’s latest interoperability advancements. Attendees can drop in during exhibit hours to discuss the following topics:

  • Ambient listening: Showcases how MEDITECH integrates with Suki to leverage ambient listening and reduce documentation burdens for clinicians. (3/12 at 2:30 p.m., 3/13 at 3:30 p.m., 3/14 at 11:30 a.m.)
  • Pharmacogenomics in the EHR with FDB: Discusses how MEDITECH is incorporating Pharmacogenomics in Expanse with RESTful APIs by providing the latest guidance and interpretation for 400+ medications at the time of ordering. (3/12 and 3/13 at 11:30 a.m.)
  • Therapies and Clinical Trial Matching with MEDITECH and GenomOncology: Highlights how the solutions harmonize discrete genetic data, problem information, and demographics to recommend optimal therapies and clinical trials. (3/12-3/14 at 12:30 p.m.)
  • Facilitated FHIR: Highlights the tools MEDITECH will use to help scale FHIR across various networks, including TEFCA. (3/12 at 3:30 p.m.)
  • Extending USCDI: Includes projects completed to bolster our USCDI offerings, including our work with the Cancer Moonshot initiative. (3/13 at 1:30 p.m.)
  • Interoperability in Canada: Highlights MEDITECH’s groundbreaking Traverse Exchange Canada interoperability network and the company's integration with OLIS (3/12 at 1:30 p.m.). MEDITECH will also share its Canadian interoperability strategy at the “Achieving a Collaborative Approach to Meaningful Interoperability Across Canada” session. (3/13 at 2:30 p.m. in W330A)
  • Health App Integrations: Highlights how MEDITECH integrates with individual access, provider, and SMART apps. (3/13 at 2:30 p.m.)
  • Patient Engagement: Identifies how MEDITECH is helping health systems engage and retain their patients using FHIR APIs. (3/14 at 1:30 p.m.)

API “office hours” will also be held at 10:30 a.m. each morning for third-party app developers to discuss integration with Expanse and our future roadmap.

As a CommonWell-Connected vendor, MEDITECH will also participate in the CommonWell Health Alliance® Clinical Scenario in kiosk #91. This scenario will follow a patient through cardiac catheterization and open-heart surgery, leveraging MEDITECH, other EHRs, and digital health tools to share her clinical records.

MEDITECH Development Manager for APIs and Structured Documents Jason Vogt will also participate in the panel FAST FHIRside chat: Security & UDAP role in FHIR Infrastructure on Tuesday, 3/12, at 12:45 p.m. in the Interoperability Showcase.

“The Interoperability Showcase is a great opportunity for EHR vendors, app developers, health system leaders, and other industry stakeholders to unite around a common purpose,” explains Kundra. “The more we look beyond the boundaries of our own EHRs and embrace the transformational impact that unfettered interoperability can have on patient outcomes, the better we can collectively address the many challenges health systems face today.”
