Maintaining the company’s role as a leader in healthcare interoperability, a team of MEDITECH developers recently attended the HL7 International 38th Annual Plenary, WGM+ and HL7 FHIR Connectathon in Atlanta to participate in hands-on development and testing of Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR).

Development Manager Jason Vogt explains that MEDITECH sees such events as an opportunity for collaboration and further development of uniform FHIR standards, with the goal of building a stronger data infrastructure to support true interoperability.

“MEDITECH is a driving force in implementing FHIR as the industry standard for data exchange, and we’re eager to work with other organizations who share our commitment to further expanding its use in health IT," says Vogt.

"The progress we've made in FHIR implementation is a testament to the effectiveness of collaborative efforts in the healthcare industry."

The Connectathon brings together a wide range of developers and stakeholders from business and government who work on specific tasks that break down information silos and improve connectivity.

Lead Developer Chris Hardee attended the FAST Infrastructure track on security and identity matching, which aims to build scalable authorization and authentication processes

Lead Developer Dan Murphy participated in the Da Vinci Burden Reduction track, where participants leveraged FHIR standards and implemented automated solutions to improve data sharing, prior authorization, and other tasks, ultimately leading to more efficient and cost-effective healthcare delivery.

And Isaiah Gardeen, software developer at MEDITECH, took part in the International Patient Summary (IPS) track, which focused on the testing and development of IPS documents used for sharing patient summaries across different healthcare systems, whether they are in different countries or within the same organization.

MEDITECH staff also attended the Working Group Meeting Plus (WGM+) program, with Vogt giving updates on MEDITECH’s achievements in supporting IPS at the EHRs and Health IT Vendors Accelerators IPS Adoption session.

Vogt explains that MEDITECH derives a number of important benefits from its longtime involvement in industry conferences and events.

“MEDITECH has a decades-long commitment to developing scalable interoperability solutions, and events like the Connectathon and WGM+ continue to give us the opportunity to demonstrate our leadership in healthcare interoperability,” Vogt says.

“We’re collaborating with other industry leaders and staying up-to-date on the latest developments while also influencing the future development of FHIR standards and ensuring that our products conform to those standards, demonstrating the power of collaboration in achieving our goals."
