Intelligent Interoperability
Share in the power of data.
The era of static document sharing is over.
MEDITECH is advancing the charge toward intelligent interoperability, empowering clinicians to search vast
amounts of data inside and outside the EHR quickly to support better decision making. Our pioneering, FHIR-first
approach enables real-time requests for targeted data at the point of care — presenting an intuitive, consolidated
summary of a patient's external data that's deduplicated, searchable, and filterable. That's intelligent interoperability.
Traverse Exchange
MEDITECH's National Data Exchange Network
Traverse Exchange enables MEDITECH customers to share health data seamlessly and securely with other MEDITECH facilities and with organizations using any EHR connected to a Qualified Health Information Network (QHIN). The power of Traverse Exchange is the way it integrates, consolidates, deduplicates, and organizes patient data from various sources — presenting it intuitively to clinicians directly within their workflow.

Behold the Power of Intuitive Interoperability
5 reasons Traverse Exchange is the most intuitive interoperability solution available today

Interoperability in Action
Learn how MEDITECH's Traverse Exchange national data exchange network is already benefitting customers, like Signature Healthcare in Brockton, MA.
Safeguard Your Independence
Traverse Exchange helps your organization stand alone — but not apart. You remain in control of your data and your future, with the tools you need to connect to other care organizations, accessing the right data at the right time to provide the best, most efficient care possible.
Boost Clinical Outcomes
When clinicians have access to comprehensive, real-time patient data — from both inside and outside of the EHR — they can make better, more informed decisions.
Empower Patients
Patients want and need access to their medical data. A patient who is informed about and engaged in their medical care is more likely to adhere to treatment recommendations, including medication regimens.
Strengthen Organizations
Interoperability enables innovative technologies that can reduce bottlenecks and facilitate automation, freeing staff and resources to engage in more meaningful, high-touch care.
Traverse Exchange in North America
Traverse Exchange connects dozens of hospitals using MEDITECH Expanse in Canada with hundreds of long-term care sites using multiple EHRs — providing clinicians with a more holistic view of their patients' care directly within the MEDITECH EHR. In the U.S., Traverse Exchange connects over 600 facilities using MEDITECH to other networks, with many more scheduled to join in 2026.

"As an organization, we are committed to advancing interoperability as a means of improving healthcare delivery and outcomes. Traverse Exchange in Canada has enabled more Ontario organizations than ever to conveniently exchange key patient health data."
Peter Bak
Chief Information Officer

"With MEDITECH's Traverse Exchange, Ferry County Health patients receive faster, more coordinated care through seamless information sharing across healthcare providers. This collaboration allows us to improve treatment accuracy, reduce duplicate testing, and ultimately enhance patient outcomes. By connecting with a broader network of specialists and resources, we are ensuring that every patient receives the quality of care they deserve, right here in our community."
James Davidson
Information Technology Director and Chief Information Security Officer

“As a family medicine clinician, it's important for me to know where else my patients have been, so being able to view past hospitalizations and ED visits through the consolidated patient summary in Traverse Exchange is helpful. Equally valuable is the ability to quickly review medications, allergies, recent lab and imaging results, and — for pediatric patients in particular — immunizations. As additional organizations begin to universally share data, this tool will become even more valuable.”
Andrea Douglas, PA-C
Family Medicine

“The moment our physicians saw Traverse Exchange they said when can I have it? When we rolled it out to our users they told us I would never have looked for this data if it wasn't as easily accessible as it is now. We've never had that kind of response to an interoperability solution before.”

An Open Ecosystem for Innovation
MEDITECH actively participates with leading organizations and initiatives advancing interoperability, ensuring that our customers are always ahead of the curve.

The Argonaut Project
The Argonaut Project is a private sector initiative to advance industry adoption of modern, open interoperability standards. Launched in 2014, it has rapidly developed the FHIR-based API and Core Data Services specification to enable expanded information sharing for EHRs.

FAST
The FHIR at Scale Taskforce (FAST) identifies Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) scalability gaps, defines solutions to address current barriers, and identifies needed infrastructure for scalable FHIR solutions. Launched as an ONC-convened initiative, FAST has transitioned to an HL7 FHIR Accelerator focused on the infrastructure needed to scale FHIR.

The Gravity Project
The Gravity Project is a national public collaborative that develops consensus-based data standards to improve how information is shared and used on social determinants of health (SDOH). Founded in 2017, its members advance equitable health and social care by leading the development and validation of consensus-driven interoperability standards.

360X
360X strives to define implementation guidance to enable EHR interoperability in support of patient transitions of care, particularly around referral management and closing the referral loop, with an aim to add value to patients, clinicians, office staff and overall clinical workflows.

Da Vinci
The Da Vinci Project is a private sector initiative that includes payers, providers, and EHR vendors collaborating with HL7 to improve data sharing in value-based care (VBC) arrangements using the HL7 FHIR platform.
