Comanche County Memorial Hospital chooses MEDITECH Expanse for a unified health record

The move to Expanse aims to streamline healthcare delivery and enhance patient outcomes for the Oklahoma hospital.

Comanche County Memorial Hospital (Lawton, OK) has selected MEDITECH Expanse as its new Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This collaboration will provide CCMH with a single, modern, and intelligent EHR platform to replace multiple legacy systems, creating a unified patient record that will enhance care coordination and the patient experience across the community.

“This is a long-term investment in our hospital’s infrastructure as well as in the health and wellness of our community,” said CCMH CEO Brent Smith. "We knew we needed a single EHR platform that could evolve with us—not hold us back. MEDITECH delivered on that promise, offering robust capabilities, strong support, and a true vision for long-term partnership.”

Addressing Fragmentation with a Cohesive Solution

Comanche County Memorial Hospital previously operated with a fragmented technology landscape, relying on five to seven different medical record systems that could not communicate with one another.

“This created significant challenges for physicians, who were unable to access critical patient information, such as notes from a specialist or primary care provider, leading to inefficiencies and potential gaps in continuity of care,” said CCMH Chief Medical Officer Dr. Scott Michener. “This partnership directly addresses these challenges, providing a seamless flow of information for all points of care.”

MEDITECH Expanse is a cloud-based platform designed to meet the evolving needs of healthcare by unifying CCMH’s hospital and physician clinics on a single patient record. Expanse will enable patient information to flow seamlessly throughout CCMH, ensuring a reliable, real-time source of truth for all clinical data. Intelligent interoperability tools work seamlessly within the clinician’s workflow to support better decision-making by intuitively curating patient data, regardless of EHR source. This integrated approach will enhance the clinician and patient experiences by improving patient safety, reducing duplicate testing, and empowering clinicians to make faster, safer, and more informed decisions.

The efficiencies gained through an integrated system allow providers to spend more quality time with patients and less time navigating disparate systems.

Transforming Patient and Clinician Experiences

An easy-to-use patient portal and patient-facing apps will foster greater patient engagement by providing patients 24/7 self-service access to their own health information, including new test results, discharge instructions, current medications, and visit summaries. And, patient care is improved through the use of population health tools that enable care teams to identify high-risk patients and proactively manage their chronic conditions.

The clinician experience will also be improved with Expanse’s intuitive navigation, mobile accessibility, and powerful automation tools that align with how clinicians work. A unified patient record across all care settings ensures safer, faster decisions with a single source of truth for medications, allergies, and test results. Integrated AI and clinical decision support offer real-time insights, detecting subtle changes in patient condition and guiding timely, evidence-based care.

The implementation of the new system began with an initial phase focusing on configurations and processes. Working side-by-side with the MEDITECH team, CCMH’s patient care and technical experts develop workflows and training guides that align with natural and efficient EHR navigation for their users.

Enhancing Performance and Sustainability with Technology

Integrated revenue cycle tools help CCMH to reduce accounts receivable days, optimize billing, and improve reimbursement through a centralized business office and denial management.

Expanse also offers inventory tracking and supply chain integration to ensure supplies are available when needed, saving time and money. Interactive dashboards and analytics provide crucial insights into operational, financial, and clinical metrics, guiding informed decisions.

“Expanse is a system that will evolve with CCMH, ensuring the health system remains independent, agile, and responsive as patient expectations and care models continue to evolve,” said MEDITECH Executive Vice President and COO Helen Waters. “The CCMH team is progressive and committed to delivering advanced EHR technology that both serves their needs and is interoperable with clinical referral partners running other vendor EHRs. Interoperability is no longer a technology problem when willing partners come to the table. Their approach to due diligence and dedication to the communities they serve is inspiring. Together, we will ensure a successful go-live that benefits their patients, clinicians, and the organization as a whole for years to come. We are thrilled to be on this journey with them.”
