December 10th marked an exciting milestone for the state of interoperability in Canada as two of its largest EHR vendors took significant strides toward provincial-wide data exchange. All MEDITECH customers in Ontario connected to MEDITECH’s Traverse Exchange Canada network now have the ability to share patient information with any site in the province connected to the Oracle Ontario eHub, thanks to a collaborative effort between the two vendors. This seamless data exchange saves time, reduces unnecessary testing, and enhances care coordination, leading to better healthcare outcomes.
Since its launch in 2023, the Traverse Exchange Canada network has connected 19 MEDITECH hospitals, with the remaining 24 Expanse sites scheduled to join the network in January. The network also connects over 300 long-term care sites operating the PointClickCareⓇ EHR, as well as multiple provincial assets, including the Ontario Provincial Client Registry (PCR), the Ontario Laboratories Information System (OLIS), and the Digital Health Drug Repository. The latest connectivity to the Oracle Ontario eHub now further eliminates barriers to care coordination by enabling hospital-to-hospital exchange across disparate vendor EHRs.

With the Oracle Ontario eHub connection complete, MEDITECH will now look to extend connectivity with other EHR vendors and provincial assets, including its first Epic site. MEDITECH will also look to open the network to additional provinces, looking next to connecting customers across British Columbia.
