MEDITECH was recently featured in The Public Sector for its role in supporting Ireland’s plans to modernise healthcare delivery by leveraging digital tools and technologies which enable a safer, more connected health system. The article, Ireland Embraces Digital Health, details the role of electronic health records (EHRs) to serve as a foundation for improving care quality, efficiency, and patient safety across the country.
“Delivering connected and coordinated care is fundamentally dependent on one source of truth, which can only be provided by a digital record, in the form of a fully integrated EHR,” said Dr. David Niland, a physician informaticist with extensive experience implementing EHRs in Ireland.
For more than two decades, MEDITECH has partnered with Irish healthcare organisations, delivering an intelligent EHR that optimizes care delivery and improves patient outcomes. MEDITECH’s Expanse EHR is enhancing the clinical experience through improved efficiency, communication, and clinical decision support. The EHR is also empowering patients with tools like online booking and secure messaging, giving them greater control over their health and contributing to better outcomes.
“MEDITECH Expanse was developed as a web-based EHR to provide the flexibility to adapt and grow with our customers’ expanding needs, meet or exceed all industry security standards, and integrate advanced technologies such as AI now and in the future,” said MEDITECH Executive Director, International, Gina Kerley. “The sustainability of the platform provides tremendous value, as does our proven ability to implement on time and within budget.”
Dr. Niland shared his experience implementing a modern EHR and how it enabled measurable improvements in clinical workflows and communication. “An integrated digital patient record immediately increased the speed and efficiency with which we delivered care to our patients, and improved communication among consultants, NCHDs and nurses, especially in the time-critical area of transfer in and out of the operating theatre” he said. “Digitally sharing medication lists, including allergies and last doses, eliminates redundant history-taking and reduces the time required to ask confirmatory patient questions.”
