MEDITECH advances AI

MEDITECH’s latest AI innovations support smarter care and stronger performance

New native ambient listening solutions for nurses and physicians introduced at HIMSS26

 |

MEDITECH announced at HIMSS26 that it is expanding its Expanse AI portfolio to further improve the clinician experience, empower patients, and maximize financial performance. One of the most impactful solutions is the introduction of native ambient intelligence for physicians and nurses.

MEDITECH is extending its support for ambient listening by integrating its native ambient intelligence solutions within the workflows of the Expanse Now mobile app for physicians and Expanse Point of Care app for nurses. These fully integrated solutions reduce documentation burden by capturing conversations in real time, automatically generating clinic visit notes and inpatient assessments, and queuing next steps in workflow.

The native nursing ambient intelligence solution enables more face time with patients by automatically parsing patient interactions directly into the appropriate assessments, which can then be reviewed and edited before filing. Nurses are prompted with an up-to-date checklist of documentation status to ensure all components of an assessment are complete, and will be able to query for key information to receive timely suggestions for care.

“MEDITECH has been strategic in its application of artificial intelligence, focusing on areas where it can improve care delivery most,” said MEDITECH Chief Nursing Executive Cathy Turner, BSN, MBA, RN-BC. “By integrating ambient listening into MEDITECH Expanse Point of Care, we’re helping our nurses capture assessment data through natural conversation. This is not just about efficiency, but it is a meaningful step toward supporting the human connection that’s at the center of exceptional nursing care.”

As embedded technology, MEDITECH’s native ambient intelligence solutions provide a streamlined rollout and intuitive user experience. MEDITECH is showcasing these solutions at HIMSS26, booth #5031, and at the Interop+Smart Experience Pavilion, booth #12623.

Additional AI solutions debuting at the conference include

Claim Denial Agents - This agentic AI-powered solution streamlines claim denial management and the appeals process. After a denial is posted, the agent automatically researches the root cause, identifies denial trends, and uses success-likelihood modeling to prioritize staff efforts. It then generates a proposed action plan and drafts an evidence-based appeal with clinical data extracted from the EHR. This significantly reduces administrative burden while improving the speed, accuracy, and effectiveness of revenue recovery.

“We believe in taking a pragmatic approach to AI, investing in solutions that deliver the most immediate impact,” said Mark Galea, Senior VP and CIO of Willis Knighton Health. “The Expanse Claim Denial Agents are compelling because we believe it will help us immediately generate ROI — accelerating revenue recovery without adding staff, while providing insight into necessary adjustments to our documentation and claim management workflows. We anticipate that these improvements will allow us to invest that capital directly back into our health system and community."

MyHealth Assistant - An intuitive, AI-powered assistant integrated into the MyHealth patient portal that provides personalized and immediate support. The chatbot uses conversational AI to seamlessly interact via text or voice to navigate the portal, locate health information, and schedule appointments. The self-service features improve patient engagement and reduce administrative burdens, including office calls and appointment scheduling.

Ask Expanse - An interactive AI-powered tool that enables clinicians to ask questions via a chatbot interface at the point of care. This allows for an in-depth exploration of the patient’s record, such as querying for specific summaries or asking clinical questions. From this intelligent interface, clinicians can move seamlessly from data retrieval to agentic administrative actions, such as generating a referral letter.

These AI solutions complement MEDITECH’s existing portfolio of intelligent tools and advance Expanse toward the company’s broader vision for the EHR platform: to serve as an orchestrator of care. MEDITECH is committed to delivering smart technology that enables transformational change, improves the care experience, and delivers better patient outcomes.
