    How does your organization embrace diversity and inclusion to help build a physician/patient relationship? During her session, Dr. Cheri Blauwet shares her insights on the importance of diversity and inclusion in medicine, as she draws on her own personal experiences as a physician.

    Cheri Blauwet, MD is an attending physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, as well as an assistant professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation for Harvard Medical School. She is a former Paralympic athlete in the sport of wheelchair racing, competing for the United States Team in three Paralympic Games (Sydney '00, Athens '04, Beijing '08), bringing home a total of seven Paralympic medals. Dr. Blauwet is also a two-time winner of both the Boston and New York City Marathons, and has been nominated for the ESPY Award, the Laureus World Sports Award, and Women's Sports Foundation Athlete of the Year. She is the Chairperson of the International Paralympic Committee’s Medical Committee and serves on the Board of Directors for the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) as well as the Neilsen Foundation Quality of Life Grant Review Board. 

    Dr. Blauwet has become a global advocate for the use of sport and physical activity to promote healthy lifestyles for all individuals with disabilities. In 2015, she spoke on the floor of the UN for the UN International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, alongside Secretary General Ban Ki Moon, IOC President Thomas Bach, and IPC President Sir Philip Craven. She has given many talks throughout the world and was a guest at the White House as well as the keynote speaker at the Boston celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Equipping and engaging physicians is imperative to convert data analytics to actual improvement in cost and quality outcomes. Hear from Dr. Larry Allen from Goshen Health as he shares the organization’s success for improving physician involvement in population health programs. There will also be an overview of the MEDITECH tools that can help to achieve positive population health outcomes.

    Driving Genomics and Precision Medicine through Interoperability and Innovation (Expanse) (Chomsky)

    With the growing science of genetic testing and corresponding precision medicine, hospitals are looking to EHRs to assist with managing vast amounts of genetic data, as well as a method to efficiently and discreetly consume that data from in-house or outside reference laboratories. In this session, we’ll walk through current LAB developments, including greater interoperability plans to bring clinical decision support for genomics directly to the physician. We’ll also discuss our plans to work with a record locator (CommonWell) to pull in genetic data from multiple outside vendors to provide clinicians with all of the information possible. This session is applicable to Expanse, however, stakeholders from all platforms are invited to attend.

During this session, we will hear from Dr. Upendra Thaker as to how opioid stewardship initiatives at Mount Nittany Medical Center, combined with their implementation of Expanse and MEDITECH’s Opioid Toolkit, are making a difference. We will also provide an update on the opioid legislative landscape and the ongoing MEDITECH Opioid Toolkit work.
