MEDITECH announced it has completed implementation of its Expanse electronic health record (EHR) platform across 34 hospitals in HCA Healthcare’s Capital and North Florida divisions, making them the first two of the organization’s U.S. divisions to fully implement the platform. HCA Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services, has 15 U.S. divisions. Its Capital Division includes 18 hospitals across Virginia and New Hampshire, and its North Florida Division includes 16 hospitals across Florida.
This latest milestone builds on the initial large-scale rollout, which began with the first wave of enterprise-wide deployment and 22 hospitals that went live in 2025. As of the latest implementation group in August 2026, HCA Healthcare has 72 hospitals across its network in the U.S. and U.K. running on the MEDITECH Expanse platform. HCA Healthcare is rolling out MEDITECH Expanse in waves at additional facilities across its network in the U.S. and U.K., with the next group of hospitals planned to go live in October 2026.
MEDITECH Expanse is a cloud-based system designed to create workflow efficiencies and enhance care coordination. With an intuitive, mobile-friendly interface, personalized workflows, embedded clinical decision support, and AI capabilities, the system helps clinicians access information, make informed clinical decisions, and enhance safety, quality, and efficiency at the bedside and beyond.
“Every successful Expanse go-live is an important step toward a more connected and consistent care environment across HCA Healthcare,” said Dr. Jake O’Shea, HCA Healthcare’s Vice President and Chief Health Information Officer. “By strengthening the foundation for our clinicians, our data and our care processes, we can help create opportunities to optimize workflows and share new insights that help our clinicians deliver care more effectively to every patient we serve.”
As a learning health system, HCA Healthcare uses data from approximately 47 million annual patient encounters to identify insights, develop best practices and continually improve care. MEDITECH Expanse further supports this data-driven approach by helping provide a standard foundation for clinical information and workflows. The platform is designed to help clinicians access information more efficiently and support informed decisions at the point of care.
“For more than 30 years, HCA Healthcare has joined us in a shared commitment to advancing healthcare, and we’re proud to support its continued progress,” said MEDITECH Vice President Joe Coughlin. “We look forward to seeing HCA Healthcare build on this foundation to use data, technology, and innovation in new ways that strengthen care delivery and create meaningful benefits for clinicians and patients.”
