Goshen Health (Goshen, IN) is the first customer to go live with MEDITECH’s redesigned Expanse Pathology, continuing its commitment to leading-edge healthcare technology. Live since May, the solution integrates seamlessly with the healthcare system’s Expanse EHR and is already showing promising results in improving efficiency, enhancing user experience, and deepening pathologist engagement.

Chief Information Officer Rob Parsons said Goshen Health’s decision to implement Expanse Pathology as an early adopter was part of the organization's broader goal to stay at the forefront of medical technology.

"Goshen Health is a leader in leveraging technology for patient care," he explained. "Expanse Pathology provided the opportunity to modernize the pathology solution to more closely reflect the Expanse platform. That was exciting for us, and being clamored for by our pathologists. It aligns with our commitment to providing innovative, outstanding care and services, by equipping clinicians with the most advanced tools available.”

The top benefits of Expanse Pathology, according to feedback from Goshen's pathologists, have been the solution's personalization features and user-friendly design. Improvements to key areas such as case management and documentation have transformed the pathology workflow. Parsons noted that pathologists save time with the latest dictation tools and easily manage final reporting through cutting-edge documentation tools, including a report snapshot quick edit at sign-out feature. In addition, a streamlined case list feature, which offers a new, comprehensive view of all work in a single, intuitive-to-use area, has been particularly well-received.

In addition to streamlining workflow for individual pathologists, Expanse Pathology facilitates communication between pathologists and care teams across Goshen Health. Communication is prioritized within the solution, allowing for efficient running of the entire pathology lab and enhancing the pathologist’s role as an active member of the care team.

Parsons said that, after a period of training and testing, the transition was smooth, a testament to the new solution's design. He also explained that centralizing access to information has enabled pathologists to manage their workload more effectively.

Moving to Expanse Pathology is only part of Goshen Health's larger technological strategy. The healthcare system has already implemented Suki AI Ambient Listening, signed a contract for Traverse Exchange and is currently implementing Expanse Navigator, built on Google Cloud. These new tools are part of a concerted effort to leverage all the resources MEDITECH can provide to deliver the highest level of patient care.
