UM Upper Chesapeake Health to Meet Integration Goals with MEDITECH 6.1

A MEDITECH customer since 1989, University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health (UM UCH) will bring its two not-for-profit hospitals (UM Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace, and UM Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air) on board with MEDITECH’s 6.1 EHR solution.

With well over 250 beds between the two facilities, UM UCH wanted a clinically integrated platform with modern features to help better serve the needs of its community.

“The MEDITECH EHR will help us address many of the modern business and clinical health care challenges we face today,” says Rick Casteel, CIO at UM UCH. “With the 6.1 platform we can expand our reach with continuing care outside of the organization, allowing us to serve the needs of our patients regardless of facility or location.”

Owned and operated by the University of Maryland Medical System, both UM UCH facilities have over 70,000 emergency department and 180,000 outpatient visits combined per year. According to Casteel, this type of volume is easily handled.

“The MEDITECH EHR is a workhorse, especially from an IT perspective. It scales to meet all of our needs,” he says.

As part of its patient engagement strategy, UM UCH is also implementing new enhancements for the Patient and Consumer Health Portal.
