Signature Healthcare Brockton Named Top Teaching Hospital for 3rd Year
The hospital has earned the elite distinction of being named a Top Hospital and one of the safest in the nation.
Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital (Brockton, MA) has enjoyed a rewarding Fall 2019 after earning a Top Teaching Hospital distinction, as well as being named one of the safest hospitals in the nation by patient safety watchdog organization, The Leapfrog Group.
Signature Healthcare Brockton is the only Massachusetts hospital to receive the Top Teaching designation three years running. This award is a testament to the hospital’s reputation for achieving high quality, patient safety, and efficiency. Top Hospitals adhere to strident regulations to prevent medication errors, deliver higher quality maternity care, and lower infection rates. To be cited as a Top Hospital, eligible organizations must meet the following six criteria set by Leapfrog:
- Secure a value-based purchasing score ranked within the top 10% of their category
- Achieve substantial progress on Computerized Physician Order Entry
- Fully meet the standard for ICU physician staffing
- Comply with Leapfrog’s never events policy
- Receive an ‘A’ Hospital safety grade
- Satisfy the Top Hospital Selection Committee in a qualitative review.
The Top Hospital award follows on the heels of Signature Healthcare Brockton receiving its 15th straight ‘A’ hospital safety grade from Leapfrog this past November. This grade recognizes the hospital’s commitment to preventing errors, accidents, injuries, and infections. Signature Brockton Healthcare Hospital is one of only four Massachusetts hospitals to receive 15 consecutive A ratings since the safety report began in 2012.
“‘A’ hospitals show us their leadership in protecting patients from preventable medical harm and error,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of Leapfrog. “It takes genuine commitment at every level — from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors — and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this.”
“The staff at Signature Healthcare work as a team every hour of every day to earn the trust of our patients and their families as we fulfill our mission of providing exceptional compassionate care to our community,” said Kim Hollon, President and CEO of Signature Healthcare. “It is wonderful to see their attention to detail and great work recognized by a respected national organization dedicated to improving safety and quality in America’s health system.”
