Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre and The Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences Announce Partnership Using the MEDITECH System
MEDITECH customer, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH), a 319-bed regional hospital in Barrie, Ontario, along with Toronto-based Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences, recently announced a partnership for the use of the MEDITECH system, one which will extend RVH’s MEDITECH HCIS training environment to Michener’s full-time laboratory science students.
The partnership establishes a virtual private network (VPN) between RVH and Michener, enabling students to train on MEDITECH’s Laboratory Information System as they work towards their medical laboratory technologists degrees. Medical Laboratory Technologists (MLTs) are health professionals who perform laboratory analyses and provide information to physicians, often through the hospital’s HCIS.
With 40 percent of the Canadian market share, MEDITECH is also currently the healthcare leader in all of Ontario (over 50 percent), with a presence in all 14 of Ontario’s Local Health Integration Networks (LHINs). And according to Christine Maxim, RVH’s MEDITECH LIS applications specialist, and both a graduate and former clinical instructor of Michener’s Medical Laboratory Technologist program, “The result of this partnership is that graduates will join the workforce with relevant applications experience, which means that their clinical training can be focused more on how to provide the high quality patient care that is required for their roles.”
