National Recovery Month: MEDITECH Takes Action
More than 11.5 million Americans misuse prescription pain medication, according to the CDC.
To increase awareness of substance use disorders and celebrate those in recovery, SAMHSA -- the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration -- sponsors National Recovery Month every September.
Here’s how MEDITECH is helping our customers confront the opioid crisis head-on:
Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs
MEDITECH recently announced direct access to state-regulated electronic Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMP) within Expanse, through our collaboration with DrFirst. The PDMP database link provides immediate, in-workflow access to controlled substance drug histories.
Opioid Management Toolkit
We’re also gearing up to launch an Opioid Management Toolkit that will support you in your efforts to reduce the harm associated with opioids and guide those with substance use disorder to recovery.
Aligned with CDC recommendations for managing chronic pain, the toolkit will provide:
Recommended best practice workflows and clinical decision support interventions
Flowsheets and widgets that support a comprehensive, longitudinal approach to managing individual patients
Standard registries that extend management capabilities across populations
Outcomes monitoring, when used with our Business and Clinical Analytics solution
Additional tools to address pain management and assist patients diagnosed with opioid use disorder (to be incorporated in future phases).
Details and release dates will be available in early 2019.
Our efforts don’t stop here. Find out how MEDITECH and the CHIME Opioid Task Force are working to stem this national epidemic.
