As healthcare providers continue to address the ongoing opioid crisis, EHRs may be one of the best tools to help them reduce unnecessary opioid prescriptions and follow best practice pain management protocols.

On June 28, MEDITECH Associate Vice President Janet Desroche and Mount Nittany Medical Center’s Associate CMO Dr. Upendra Thaker will participate in a live webinar hosted by HIMSS, titled “The Opioid Crisis and the EHR.” They will explore the background and current state of the opioid crisis in the United States, as well as the potential of EHRs to provide electronic prescribing functionality that can reduce opioid related harm and deaths. The webinar will also focus on ways to improve the quality of life for patients suffering from substance use disorders (SUDs), in alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements.

Attendees of this webinar will benefit from:

  • Learning the history that has led to the current opioid crisis in the United States.

  • Understanding some of the key legislative activities associated with proposed opioid crisis solutions, especially developments in EHR functionality.

  • Identifying accepted current best practices for opioid management, as well as how EHRs can incorporate these best practices into prescriber workflows.

The Opioid Crisis and the EHR webinar will be held from 11 a.m. to noon EDT (10 to 11 a.m. CDT), conducted by a member of the HIMSS Physician Committee. Registration is now open.
