Listen to a recording of MEDITECH Executive Vice President Hoda Sayed-Friel and CalvertHealth Chief Innovation Officer Phil Campbell’s recent CHIME webinar, “Collaboration in a Crisis: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Opioid Stewardship.”

The speakers discuss practical strategies for combating the nationwide opioid epidemic, and explore the specific IT tools that can assist with pain management and appropriate dosing.

Mr. Campbell also describes the development of CalvertHealth’s multidisciplinary opioid stewardship program and task force, as well as their successful Dilaudid Free ED initiative that virtually ended the use of dilaudids as a first-line medication in Calvert’s ED.

By focusing their efforts on re-educating physicians and enlisting the support of community stakeholders to spread awareness, Calvert reduced opioid prescriptions in their ED by 26% in just six months. They also achieved a 94% decline in dilaudid use and a 46% decrease in the use of other opioids.
