MEDITECH Customers Earn Top Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group
Thirty-three percent of MEDITECH customers earned an “A” from The Leapfrog Group for meeting rigorous safety standards.
The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog organization, recently announced the results of its fall 2019 Hospital Safety Grade scores. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade recognizes hospitals on how safe they keep their patients from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections; 33 percent of MEDITECH customers earned an “A,” the highest grade. Results are available to the public, enabling consumers to make more informed decisions about their care.
The score measures 28 safety standards ranging from infection prevention to communication between staff and patients. MEDITECH’s EHR helps healthcare organizations to further their safety efforts with a surveillance solution and evidence-based toolkits that monitor at-risk patients and provide clinical decision support to the care team.
The Leapfrog Group intends to reduce the approximately 200,000 annual deaths due to hospital injuries and errors. In the 20 years following publication of the landmark report To Err is Human, patient safety has become a top priority for many hospitals nationwide.
“In stark contrast to 20 years ago, we’re now able to pinpoint where the problems are, and that allows us to grade hospitals. It also allows us to better track progress,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Encouragingly, we are seeing fewer deaths from the preventable errors we monitor in our grading process.”
