Join MEDITECH in Recognizing Canadian Patient Safety Week 2019
With the theme "Conquer Silence," the Canadian Patient Safety Institute is encouraging conversations on all levels — whether you’re a patient, care provider, administrator, or policy maker.
This year’s Canadian Patient Safety Week (October 28 to November 1) aims to raise awareness around patient safety incidents. With the theme, Conquer Silence, the Canadian Patient Safety Institute is encouraging conversations on all levels — whether you’re a patient, care provider, administrator, or policy maker.
According to the Canadian Patient Safety Institute, patient safety incidents are the third leading cause of death in Canada, behind cancer and heart disease. One in three Canadians has experienced a form of patient harm, either themselves or has had a patient safety incident affect a loved one.
MEDITECH supports the efforts of our many customers who are helping to improve patient safety and quality. Here are a few of the tools and resources offered by MEDITECH to help you keep your patients safe.
- Bedside Verification ensures that you always give the right patient the right medication, at the right dosage and during the right time. Read the blog from Alicia Stevens, Regional Pharmacy Informatics Coordinator, Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (Stratford ON), as she shares how five hospitals within Southwestern Ontario moved from two different paper Medication Administration Record (MAR) processes to using electronic MAR/Bedside Verification to drive best practices and reduce the risk for dosage errors.
- Expanse's convenient mobile solutions keep patients and their families at the center of their own care team, by improving their access to information and strengthening partnerships with providers. With Virtual Visits and our Patient and Consumer Health Portal, a positive patient experience is never out of reach.
- MEDITECH’s evidence-based Fall Risk Management Toolkit, along with our Antimicrobial Stewardship Toolkit, are now available in Canada. Designed using Expanse technology, these step-by-step guides help organizations get the most from their EHR. They're built and maintained in collaboration with staff physicians, clinicians, and customers, to get you up and running fast.
- Early awareness means early intervention. Hilo Medical Center, (Hilo, HI) found that 85 percent of sepsis cases were present on arrival at the emergency department. Learn how HMC’s strong leadership guided changes that have made a tremendous impact on sepsis awareness and recognition by downloading our case study.
Additionally, MEDITECH's EHR Patient Safety Review Board provides guidelines, education, and action plans to reduce patient safety events and improve customer satisfaction. Customers can visit our EHR Safety Corner for more information. A customer login and password are required.
