John Chen, CFO & vice-president of finance and support services for Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Whitby, ON), recently received the 2018 Leadership in Health Informatics Award for leading the development of the first-ever patient portal for mental health.
Chen received the award at the annual Canadian Health Informatics Awards (CHIA) gala, held recently as part of the eHealth 2018 Conference and Trade Show. Recipients of the annual award are recognized for their outstanding ongoing contributions as thought leaders, both nationally and internationally, to advance Canadian health informatics and/or telehealth.
Ontario Shores uses MEDITECH’s Patient and Consumer Health Portal to enable patients to access to their medical records, communicate with their providers, request prescription renewals, and schedule appointments.
“The patient portal plays a key role in helping us to engage patients and families in managing their own care,” says Chen. “We strive to create a culture that embodies the patient-provider partnership, a model that is especially important when caring for patients with mental illness.”
“We congratulate John on this tremendous honor,” says MEDITECH President & CEO Howard Messing. “It’s been a pleasure to collaborate with him and Ontario Shores, as we all share a vision for improving health through patient empowerment and stronger partnerships.”
