CDC Launches New Sepsis Education Campaign

According to a New York Times article, the CDC is undertaking a new campaign to educate the public about sepsis and populations that may be more susceptible — including children.

Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, reflects on how knowledge and quick action helped to save his own son over 20 years ago, when he began showing signs of the potentially fatal infection at home (as is typical for most cases involving children).

“It was so scary, even for someone trained as a physician, to see how quickly someone who’s healthy can become critically ill,” Frieden says in the story.“I’m like the thousands of parents and loved ones who experience this every year.”
