Case Study: FMH Reduces Sepsis Mortality Rate by 65 Percent with MEDITECH
Frederick Memorial Hospital decreased sepsis mortality rates from almost 16 percent down to 4.76 percent, while increasing core measure compliance from 32 percent up to 80 percent.
How did Frederick Memorial Hospital (Frederick, MD) transform itself from a below-average performer to a recognized leader in the fight against sepsis? A new case study explores how hospital leadership developed a comprehensive strategy to caring for these patients.
To launch the strategy, FMH formed a multidisciplinary steering committee to establish best practices, and aligned them with MEDITECH’s Sepsis Management Toolkit upon its release. The hospital also improved awareness among staff and patients, and instituted a corporate goal of surpassing the SEP-1 core measure at a minimum of 80 percent.
By taking a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach, FMH was able to decrease sepsis mortality rates from almost 16 percent down to 4.76 percent, while increasing core measure compliance from 32 percent up to 80 percent.
