AMA Endorses EHR Training in Med School Curriculum

The American Medical Association is advocating for hands-on EHR training as part of the medical school curriculum. Through their “Accelerating Change in Medical Education” initiative, the AMA is working with a consortium of medical schools to transform how students are prepared for today’s technologically advanced healthcare environment.

“There is a clear need for medical students today to have access to and learn how to properly use electronic health records well before they enter practice," states Jesse M. Ehrenfeld, MD, an AMA board member, in a recent Health Data Management article.

MEDITECH championed a similar effort. In 2010, we developed a relationship with Northeastern University (Boston, MA) to create a version of our software for their health science students, making them the first university to integrate EHR software into the classroom setting.
